Bio

Claus Freudenstein, born in Bavaria/Germany, studied Doublebass at “Richard – Strauss Conservatorium” and „Hochschule für Musik und Theater München“ in Munich where he graduated and received his Diploma. Beside this he studied Electric Bass at the “Bass School Munich” Since completing his education, he has been employed as a contrabass and e-bass professor at two state music schools and at the Highschool of his city. Furthermore, he heads the largest contrabass class in Bavaria. In 2009 it was even the largest class in all Germany.

As a musician Claus Freudenstein appeared with many german orchestras like the Munich Radio Orchestra, The Munich Opera, and also with The Teneriffa Symphonie Orchestra in Spain. In the same time he also worked with groups like Deep Purple and the Iron Maidens.

Inspired by his teaching and his love to educate children he has developed what is known as the “Freudenstein-Minibass”. This is the first instrument on the market that allows children to play the contrabass from the age of five. (www.minibass.com)

Claus Freudenstein is the founder and leader of the Doublebassquartett “The Bassmonsters” that causes international sensation by extending the possibilities of the Doublebass to the peak.
(www.bassmonsters.de) The Bassmonsters appeared at the ISB Convention in Fort Collins/Collorad/USA as well as at international Doublebass Festivals in Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands.

Further more Claus Freudenstein is the organizer of the Bavarian Bassdays (www.bavarian-bassdays.com), one of the most known Doublebass Festivals in the world.

As a teacher and soloist Claus Freudenstein appeard at the ISB Conventions in Rochester(NY), Fort Collins (CO) and Ithaca (NY) as well as at the European Bass Conventions in Prag, Amsterdam and Kopenhagen. In 2017 he was invited to head the “Festival Centro Americano De Contrabajo Kevin Gonzales” in Guatemala from where he went on to teach at the Conservatory of Tegucigalpa in Honduras.

He played solo concerts in England, Spain, New York, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Germany, Mexico and at the famous „Whisky a GoGo“ in Los Angeles.

Furthermore he was working for ESTA (European string teachers association) in Portugal to teach teachers how to work with young children on the doublebass. Claus Freudenstein was invited to hold Masterclasses and lectures at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, the University of San Diego, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, the South Californian Bassdays, at the Festival „Contrabajos de Baja California“ in Tijuana/Mexico, at the University of Music Durango /Mexico, in Germany, England, Spain, USA, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Portugal and Switzerland.

Well known composers like John Alexander (GB), Girolamo Deraco (IT) and Simon Garcia (ES) wrote compositions for him. He specialized his classes on the topics „Using classical playing technics on modern music styles“ and „Working and teaching with the Minibass“

Beside this Claus Freudenstein is writing arrangements and compositions. They are published at Friedrich Hofmeister Verlag; Leipzig/Germany. The titels of his books are „Minibass“ and „It`s christmas“

His composition „Bass-Hymn“ is published at recital music and received it´s US premier during the 50th anniversary convention óf the International Society of Bassists in Ithaca/NY.

Claus was „Director on the Board“ of the International Society of Bassists and artistic director.
